Book Review: Saundra E. Harris

Saundra E. Harris, Award winning fiction novelist of "The Party".

Last week I got a chance to meet Ms. Harris, well not in person but on a radio talk show that she does every week. Her show was based on relationships and honesty which I just happen to call in. Ms. Harris is a very cool lady and very down to earth. So if you get a chance go and check out her Radio Talk Show. Here is the link:

Check out her book review:

The Party by Saundra E. Harris is a story about five friends that are struggling with a variation of different troubles, but shows the true bond of friendship.

Shaeyla Andrews owns her own party planning business, which she runs very well. However, she is a poor judge of character and goes from one bad relationship to another. Will she ever truly be happy?

Benet Grier is a mother and wife. She finally decides to return to school, to pursue her dream of becoming an interior decorator. However, there is a rift between her husband and she that leads her to start paying closer attention to the good-looking men around her. Will she and her husband come back together or will the rift get so big that they cannot find their way back?

Diandra Johnson owns her own hair salon. She likes those rough types of men. But the men she wants do not want to be monogamous. There is someone that is interested in her, but will she finally take the advances of a nice guy willing to give her all she deserves or will she continue to follow after hoodlums?

Worthy Mitchell works two jobs and has a young son. She is a single mother with a bad habit. This habit leads her to a place that she keeps hidden from her friends. She is so messed up that she leaves her son with her mother. Will she be able to come out of her fog without getting hurt or hurting anyone else?

Kendra Thompson is struggling with her weight, but once she decides to do something about it, things change for her. She starts to feel good about herself, but will it be enough for her to attract a man?

Saundra E. Harris made a valiant effort of writing a story with a good plot, and great characters in The Party. But, the plot was not enough to compensate for the book's flaws. It flipped back and forth between first and third person. There was not much dialogue between characters at all. At times, it seemed as if the author was talking to a friend with some of the statements that she used. It was said that there is to be a sequel, and as much as I would love to see what happened in the lives of these five women, I would like to read a reedited version of this book, so that I can truly enjoy this book the way it should be enjoyed without the errors. It would be a much better story if it was properly edited. I will not recommend this book to anyone until it has been edited and re-released, then and only then will it make for a quick and easy read.
